Hi
I have just joined the ranks of Alpine owners as of Friday night. I bought a
1962 Series II in Watsonville, CA and managed to drive it home to Half Moon
Bay, CA (about 65 miles) with only one small incident when I think I flooded
her after stopping for gas.
Now that she is in her new home I have started on a series of projects to try
and tidy her up before my wife gets back from vacation in the UK - my wife
doesn't know about my little surprise yet!!
1. I have already removed the windscreen in order to swap it with a very
reasonable spare that came with it but now that is off I really think the
dash vinyl needs replacing. Any ideas on how to do this and how does one get
the nice curved front when most of the hard foam has disintegrated?
2. Any pointers on somebody who does bodywork and/or mechanicals in the SF
Bay area? I know I will be doing a lot myself - it's just that I have this
feeling some things may need accelarating due to spousal pressure.
3. Which is the best source for soft tops? What is the correct finish
leatherette or pin-point?
4. Does anyone have a detailed picture or schematic of the dash with the
switches clearly marked. Most of mine are black plastic and I would like to
replace them with the correct type in the correct places. The main beam
switch is a pull out knob type with a chrome bezel with the word "lights"
embossed in it. Does this sound like the original one?
Thanks for your help and I look forward to exchanging stories with you as I
learn more about these cars.
BTW I am 6'10" and I am told it is quite a sight to see me drive the car - I
don't care I just love the cars!!
Best regards
Clive
