Terry,
The radiator shop should have a measured amount of fluid to runn through your 
radiator and the amount that flows out the bottom will be timed. Tell them 
your problem. They also may have a combustion gas detector that they can see 
if exhaust gases are getting into the radiator. This will have to be done 
with the car at their shop. One other thing to check would be retorque the 
head if you haven't done this recently. I once had my S4 overheat gradually 
on the freeway 45 miles from home. When I dropped the speed down the 
overheating stopped. I didn't find the problem for a couple of months when 
the head loosened up even more in town.
To check flow if you have the thermostat out still remove the top hose going 
into the radiator and start the motor if a gusher comes out your flow is 
fine. Also put the thermostat back in it slows down water flow in the 
radiator so heat dissapation can occur. A quick test of a restricted radiator 
internal tubes is to remove the radiator cap and when engine is warm ie water 
flowing rev the motor up. If water shoots out the filler neck radiator is 
restricted internally.
Another thing the radiator shop should look at is the fin bond. This is where 
the tubes and the fins that dissapate the heat connect. Poor fin bond means 
poor cooling efficency.
