Re: stock Alpine fans do break . . .

A suggestion for a substitute fan I posted way back when was for a 13" Hayden
flex fan, part # 3513. I got this from a fellow Alpiner who swore by it,
but haven't tried it myself, having switched to an early Series fan after
losing a second blade on the way to SUNI II some five years ago. The early
fans definitely seem more robust (this one's lasted 40,000+ miles), tho I
suppose being slightly heavier, they steal some minuscule amount of
horsepower.

What's the preferred electric fan setup for Alpines?

I lost a blade to my fan, it sliced through my return water hose and made a
rather nasty hole in the hood. Back to the body shop I go, seems like I
just got it out of there. . .

I tried looking through the archives, but was unable to locate the
discussion that got down to the specifics of what type of aftermarket fan
was best. Classic Sunbeam does not carry them anymore according to their
web site, so I ordered a Perma-Cool Aluminum Flex (which may be too big) and
a Flex-a-lite 400 that is sure to fit, but may not push enough air. I
ordered them from www.jegs.com which seemed a pretty decent outfit.

Word to the wise, do replace your stock fan blade, no matter how much you
want to keep it looking stock . . .
