Robert,
I just did mine and I would find it hard to do it right without taking off
the transmission tail piece.
I would remove the tail since the bolts are available, unlike the the front
bell housing bolts.
You will need to replace the gasket too but removing the seal will be
soooooo much easier. I had to smash the hell out of mine to get it out.
The original had a metal casing and the new are much flimsier.
Remember to put some kind of sealer around the new seal where it meets the
housing. Form-a-gasket works good.
