Sump/ bearing cap cork gaskets. Changed in 1970 ?

I'm rebuilding a 1966 1725cc 5 bearing Singer Vogue block to Alpine V spec.

The two strips of cork which are supposed to
form the seal between sump pan and the end
bearing caps are too short , by about 5 mm each.

My new-old-stock sump gasket set is marked "Hunter etc 1970 - 76"

Did Chrysler change the 1725's
gaskets / sump sealing system sometime between 1966 and 1976 ?

Or is there a way to swell up these gaskets to the correct size:

Can I expand them slightly by soaking them in something?
white spirit? cellulose?

Cheers for any replies, guys.

Andy
