Bill,
When I made door panels for my Series V, I found this plastic sheet hanging
loosely in the door. Considering the old panels were badly warped, I don't
think the plastic was doing what it was supposed to do. In order to keep
the panels from warping again, a water tight seal should be formed between
the panel and the door, that way when rain and moisture drips inside the
door, it won't collect on the panel, but drain out the bottom of the door.
I used a heavy plastic sheeting material found at any harware store, and
glued it all the way around the inside of the door opening with 3M
weatherstriping adhesive. If you check everything before you glue the
plastic in, it should be another thirty years before you'll have to get in
there again!
Good luck.
Tom
I seem to remember that the plastic sheets in the door panels that keeps
the water from leaking into the car was mounted on the lower edge of the
window like an apron. Is this correct, and does anyone have any suggestion
on where I can find plastic of the correct thickness and flexibility to do
the job?

P.S. Thanks to all who have responded with parts and suggestions.
