I am trying to under take a timing change of my Alpine as from tests I
believe that it is one tooth out.
I have removed the radiator but am having trouble in removing the
crankshaft pulley. There is a large nut on the and I can get a large
spanner on it but even with the car in gear and the handbrake on I can't
free it as it moves the car. Is there some way of mechanically holding the
pulley whilst removing this nut. Is it left or right hand thread.?
Obviously I then need to remove the timing cover and wheels, any tips
experience here would also be valued.
My to pennies on the cooling fan issue. I run an electric fan in front of
the radiator and no mechanical fan. I only need the electric one when
stationary for a while in traffic and it brings the temp down quickly. But
I am in England and have more worries about rain than temperature. I did
initially have the fan pushing the wrong way at first though but it was
simple to reverse.
I don't believe that you could fit an electric fan behind the radiator with
the mechanical on still in place. As for the 5 hp gain - If you did every
thing in the 'horn' over the years and added the horse power claims you
would have about 200 bhp. However I agree that pushing that big fan area
through the air at high speed needs a lot of power which is why mine has
gone.
