The rear plates were dealer installed. NOT FACTORY. Rootes instructed
dealers to install them on the trunk lid, but many dealers installed
them under the bumper. I spoke with Doc Wagner, who owned one of the
Rootes dealerships here in Dayton, before he died. He said he could
always tell a car in this area that came from his dealership because his
was the only one that put the plate under the bumper. Scott Christie
actually has a memo from Rootes instructing dealers to mount the rear
plate in the trunk lid. This, of course was the best location for the UK
plates, but US plates don't look as good there. I always put my plates
under the bumper.
