I'm getting close to "Satori" with my Alpine. By the end of the week,
we expect to be actually tooling around in it, though it won't be ready
for the road. As soon as we think it's more or less road worthy, we'll
strip the chrome and send it to the Paint Shop! Oh Frabjous Day!
After that, I'll need to decide what to do about the upholstery. I have
an estimate, from an outfit on Melrose Ave here in Los Angeles, call
Mario's Auto Upholstery. They come with a reasonable recommendation,
and have provided as estimate. I'd like to share it with the group and
see if anyone has any suggestions, experiences, warnings, etc. I'll
give you their numbers, and some comments of mine.
QTY Description Amount
2 Reupholster seats with leather $950.00 anyone have good alternatives
to leather?
2 Door Panels (vinyl) $350.00
1 Carpet (Wilton) $500.00
1 Dashboard $150.00
1 Convertible Top (Canvas) $750.00 This seems high to me - am I
dreaming?
1 Trunk carpet and Vinyl $350.00 not sure this is important
1 Rear Section (by Conv. top) $350.00 not sure this is important,
either
One thing that is not mentioned is a Tonneau Cover, which I might like
to have.
I'd sure appreciate everyone's input on this, because I have the Saloon
to to do sometime, also, so any money I can save, or mistakes I can
avoid, will be a BIG help. Of course, everyone (it seems) is more clever
than I am about doing things themselves. My general feeling about doing
it myself is, its a terrific way to get a sloppy job, and maybe only
half done at that.
Thanks,
Irv Kostal
