Not sure about this, but in the 510s that BRE ran in the Under 2.5 (liter)
Trans Am they used restrictors to create back pressure in the cooling system
and prevent the water pump from cavitating while running at sustained high
revs. When this happened there was no movement of the coolant at all.
Obviously not a good thing.

Don't forget that the oil circulating through the engine plays a large part
in engine cooling, too.
