Stewart,

Yup, pay attention to voltage. Most older small planes are 12 volts, but as 
the plane gets bigger and newer, you will find they are 24 volts. 
Naturally, aircraft landing lights run really hot, so you will have to make 
sure the fixture you are mounting them can handle the heat. Mounting them 
in close proximity to that plastic V-dub grill sounds like meltdown to me!

Another thing, they do throw an immense amount of light, but the reflector 
in the bulb does not focus the light at all. It would be pretty obvious to 
any cop you drove by that this light is not DOT approved! YMMV
