Once again I will mount the soap box. No you can't see both sides of the
argument. It is merely a choice made by racers between what is right, and
what is convenient (and what will propel them to the front of the grid the
quickest).

To vintage race, I believe you must agree with the idea that "racing was
better in the old days". This is how the first people started vintage racing
as a way to bring old, outclassed cars back on to the track. They looked at
the SCCA, said Yuk, and started their own deal.

I know people who have come to the track one weekend, bought a car and entered
the next, have not gone through this thought process and yet wonder why they
can't enter in their Miata. These folks need good strong rules and
encouragement from their peers to realize that it is far better to spend
endless time speculating on electrical theory to finally experience the joy
and sense of acomplishment of their electric overdrive actually engaging.

While sticking a five speed in your Spitfire may not seriously affect your
car's value, I offer this challenge, go to Scottsdale next year and buy one of
those restored Austin Healeys, stick a 289 in it, and then see if you can get
Caroll Shelby to sign it enough times to ever get your $90 grand back.

What I mean by this is I go to a lot of work to bring a reasonably period
correct and interesting car to the track and drive it. I expect everyone else
to do the same. The idea that Vintage event organizers should welcome
whatever car shows up in whatever kind of condition, is just racing
