I stuck with points on Peyote for years. I did, however, use a mallory dual
point disty. The lucas distributors in my experience wear quickly and give
inconsistent timing. A pertronix is the easiest way to fix that since the
runout has little effect on the timing. But you need 14 V for them to work
really well. If you don't have an alternator then you might have problems--at
least they used to. Garmey fitted an alternator on Peyote so he could be sure
I wouldn't have dead battery issues and so we could run electronics. I'm still
arguing with him about it, but it's been dead reliable after some initial
teething issues.
