Good advice Greg.
A trick I use when installing the oil pan with the engine in the car: I screw 4
threaded studs into the block, 2 on either side. Loc Tite them in. Then it's
easy to hold the pan in place with one hand and start the nuts on the studs
with the other. Then install the rest of the bolts. Saves fumbling and nasty
words.
OBTW: Erie has gotten about 5 FEET of snow since Christmas morning! I'm 25
miles south and have a dusting. Lake Effect, you know.

Greg, use permatex #3 or super 300 on the brake ring.
I learned at a fairly young age to use a gasket cement on one side of the
gaskets, like High Tack, and a coating of grease on the other.
That way if you goof it will come back apart with no problem and the gasket
will remain in place.

applied some heat to the brake ring and a brass punch separated it from the
rear case. Easy. The person that rebuilt this into previously used copious
amounts of silicon on all surfaces. I've found plenty of small chucks in
various orifices.
