Ed, Rich, List,

The comments I've seen so far are exactly what I was looking for and have
answered some of my questions. The one that's still nagging me is
specifically about bolt-in dash assemblies. Since this light weight frame
serves no purpose but to support the flamable vinyl cover and to house the
defroster, heater, and stock gage cluster, can it be deleted without being
considered gutting? Having a glove box and defroster ducts sure isn't gonna
make anybody faster, but I'd rather not argue this while sitting in the tech
line. My plan is to mount all gages on a pod above the steering column and
run the roll cage structure through where the dash had attached. Tech
inspectors?

My second question (which might start a fire on the list) is about Pro and
GT car dashes. I noticed that Lionel's truck has a hunk of stock dash,
while some of the Pro cars seem to have complete interiors. (with A/C, glove
box and headliner) If my dash assembly unbolts from the firewall can it be
trashed and still pass tech? No way that removing the big hunk of vinyl and
thin metal frame is gonna make me any faster. It will however, remove a
fire hazard and give me leg room at the front of the roll structure.
