well, your right , if you blindly "double" the jet size and fill the tank
with methanol i think you will find yourself in big trouble. but if you
take a , say, a decent carbureted small block engine and desired to run it
on methanol its not that hard- you would need to install an alcohol
compatable carb ( the idle circuits, accelerator pumps, etc, not just the
main jets will be sized differently for alcohol) and fuel pump with
adequately sized fuel lines and tweak the ignition advance and plug heat
range for best results . likewise the fuel pump, barrel valve, main and
bypass jets, nozzles etc. in a fuel injection setup would need to handle
the increased fuel demand. its not a mystery, you just have to set it up
accurately. a small increase in power should be realized with less engine
heat ( assuming youre not too lean) and without the worries of detonation -
and keep an eye on your fuel tank level, it goes alot quicker with alcohol.
like dahlgren said, once you start messing with nitrous and other stuff
then other factors need to be addressed.
