Why do lean mixture burn holes in pistons?
the sheer heat of the burning charge melts them, in a lean mix there is no
residual fuel after the air is totally consumed by combustion to quench ,
or absorb the excess heat- and the mixture burns very quickly ( a quick
burn yeilds high cylinder pressures, and since the volume of the combustion
chamber is "fixed", temperature rises correspondingly ) and is fully and
efficiently consumed liberating lots of heat, and the next incoming
cylinder charge has so little fuel it cannot quench the heat either - you
literally blowtorch the pistons till they melt -as you must know, aluminum
alloys melt at a relatively low temps - doug @ black radon
