Here's another little story about the good natured racers you find a
Bonneville.

After Dave set his 210 MPH E/GCC record there wasn't much cushion left
for going faster. Joe only qualified at .004 MPH faster. Virtually no
cushion at all, and typically we run slower in the AM. While in impound we
were thinking of ways to make it happen. Cant' just up the nitrous jets in
the gas class. However we figured a little more gear might just do the
trick. We had a 3.12 gear for Dave's runs and figured a 3.18 might put Joe
over the top. Problem was we didn't have that set. So I hoofed it over to my
old "D class" record trading partner Tom Bryant to see what he had on hand.
Yup, Tom had it but it was sitting in Redding. So Tom took me over to Ed
Tradeup "Danny Boy Apples" car to see what he had. Sure enough Ed had the
exact set we needed, and let us borrow for the next mornings return run. Did
it work, you bet, Joe ran over 213 MPH and bumped the record 2 MPH.

Without Tom and Ed's help we might not have made it. What a great bunch
of people. Having a quickchange sure helped too.
