I have an old Riverside LP called "Sports Cars in Hi- Fi" that I drag out
now & then for entertainment. It has a recording of a 1937 Mercedes W-125
Grand Prix car running at Oulton Park (in the rain!) sometime in the
fifties. That big ol' V-12 sounded very healthy as Peter Collins pushed it
pretty hard.

I have a recording of a 500 cc V-8 Guzzi (it may have been a MV) with John
Surtees aboard at the Isle of Man Gran Prix from the 50's. It was breaking
the tire loose as it progressed through the gears. It is truly a beautiful
sound. Especially awesome considering it was racing against Norton Manx
single cylinder jackhammers.
