Mother Boeing did do the computational fluid dynamics analyses on one of the
America's Cup racers. I think it was the year that Dennis won. However, it
was not my understanding that microbaloons were added to the coating but
that the coating had longitudinal grooves in it. I have not been interested
in water as a medium for racing (since my drag boat days anyway) so didn't
pay any real attention to it. For us guys, delay the boundary layer
separation as long as you can and that means a really smooth surface: wax,
wax, wax then wax some more. Turbulent air means drag. And yes, I am still
fiddling with the wind tunnel idea, just side tracked by house moving
details, bum knees and landscaping. I surely would like some one to donate a
nice dyno to me, if they have one not currently being used <grin>
