I suppose you could add a shutoff valve in the line from the pump outlet to
the oil tank return to keep oil from slowly leaking back through the pump
into the sump after the engine was shut down. Of course, if you forgot to
open that valve before you fired up next time.... disaster.

Jim, this is an ancient mc problem, it wet-sumped, the oil ran back
through the Barnes pump, which must not have any check-valve(it
shouldn't, for reliability), and the greater head of the new tank would
increase drain-back, plus, your 40 wt synthetic is probably a lot
thinner than your previous 50 wt.  Right?  Bill
