The instruments in that engine-turned panel were, indeed, all from Stewart
Warner.

Studebaker is absolutely the Winner for title of America's Oldest
Manufacturer of Automobiles, as the Studebaker brothers got their start
building wagons ( possibly Conestoga type ) that were used to move the
Pioneers westward across America ........ I think they were already doing
this in the 1850s. My Mom used to have a little '60 Lark that I kept
running
for her until I eventually inherited it ...... while I often wished it was
one of those swoopy looking Raymond Loewy designed '53 coupes that became so
popular
at the Lakes and Bonneville, it did have a peppy V8 that leveled hills
pretty
well,
and it made a decent beater . I did notice while working on it that it was
put
together one helluva lot better than the Chevvies of the '60s I came across,
even though I was generally thrashing on '55, '56 and '57 draggin' types.
I also recall the really neat engine turned dashboard panels in the
Studie Hawks that followed the '53 coupes ...... they looked like they were
made by
Stewart-Warner ! I seem to recall that the late Dean Moon stuffed a Stude
V8
into his '34 Ford 5 window coupe back in the Fifties and it was shown in a
how -to article in Rod & Custom ..... I think . I believe McGurk made some
neat speed goodies for both inline and V8 Studie engines back then .......
Did you come across a worthy candidate for speedifying down under there ???
