"wait and see" is fine with me, since I have no intention of building an
engine like that.

I think Malcom's concern (as well as some other guys I've heard talking
about "siamesed" engines) is that they don't want to invest the time and
resources building such an engine and getting it to the Salt, only to have a
"For Time Only" sign hung on the side of their car.

But what if block and/or crank were made as two seperate blocks / cranks by
the OEM, and the racer has had them permanently put-together-- say, by
welding--??

Let's wait and see when one shows up. Please refer to welding/brazing thread
from earlier in the month for ideas on how to hope for a long life from the
crank and associated pieces.
