Morning KT & all,

There's something I've been wanting to ask y'all about... what types and
what mounting methods have you used for in-car video cameras?

At Speedweek and Finals last year we mounted a C-VHS regular hand-held
camera to the roll cage in the Big Red Truck. Since Bernie had some
experience with cameras on alcohol dragsters, he recommended that we tape
foam over the microphone to damp out some of the audio else it would
overdrive the video. So we put some foam over the mic...

The video worked OK - at least until the motor started making power. Then
the world blanked to all white. There were momentary glimpses of the course
during shifts and the world all came back after shutdown. Of course, it was
a lot of fun telling people that when you are accelerating that much, the
world _really_ does go all white! The audio was great, except that everybody
can hear a bad shift. ;-)

Anyway, I know there are lots of in-car cameras and I'm sure that folks have
'em working well, so I'm looking for a few pointers. A single camera with
audio would be good, and something that could record multiple angles would
be better. Something that didn't cost a fortune would be ideal.

Oh yeah, after World Finals, Bernie got out the camera and discovered that
some of the internals had diassembled themselves. I guess JVC doesn't use
enough loctite!

Thanks,
Jim Webb
