We got our 7 1/2 HP Ingersoll Rand two-cyl compressor for $525 (incl.
80-gallon tank) at the local university's surplus equipment auction a year
or so ago. The motor runs on 220 3-phase. The single-phase units went for
quite a bit higher (1200, 950, and 800) even though some were smaller
capacity -- the three phase wasn't too popular (and my building does have
3-phase juice available).
Moral of the story: Be aware of those state auctions -- lotsa good stuff
there for cheap, especially if you're flexible.
Jon, in cold Marquette, where the very same truck thermometer that showed
+108 last summer on the way home from Speedweek --- showed -28 on the way to
the office this morning. It was -24 at the house, and no, the furnace
wasn't making much headway above 60...
