When I had a doctor retire on me, I found my next doctor in part by looking
at his age and the probability of him outliving me. My current doctor had
lost relatively young family members to colon cancer and is very serious
about the subject. He very strongly recommends a colonoscopy for all his
male patients at or before age 55. Annual physicals are full work ups on
blood tests.

He is also a huge proponent of using glucosamine as an arthritis preventive
and uses it himself. He says it's all just like preventive maintenance on a
car. Actually he is very aggressive about his male patients who don't
schedule annual physicals and reminds them that they are very necessary.
Stop problems early and the end expense is not nearly as high is his
attitude. Perhaps there is a correlation between the relative ages of the
doctor/patient and the willingness to have checkups?

With the average age on this list being rather "advanced" we all need to be
sure and schedule an ANNUAL check up.
