Wayne runs a blown flathead out of Lexington Nebraska. His old racing
partner Don Wheeler, of Parker CO, runs the straight 8 Buick. Look it up in
the rule book as "Salt Lick". I used to race them in the 60's when I had a
Flathead altered and they had a Flathead dragster. Bonneville got us all
back together. We share parts to the point of forgetting and not caring
whose stuff is whose. Don ran my ARDUN in Salt Lick in 2002 with a best of
211 blown on gas. Wayne has a nice chopped 39 Ford Sedan we have run at
Bonneville and Maxton, along with my street roadster. Wayne can put his car
on a car hauler and tow the roadster on a trailer and we can travel with 4
people with a lot of fun. The Buick is either injected or turbocharged
depending on Don's whim. The head alone must weigh 300 pounds. It takes 4
of us to remove it from the car to change head gaskets. You will see the
injected version this year on the salt. Don also drag races the injected
version and you will see it June 6 at the Flathead Nationals in Denver.
