Keith;

If you're running a Holley, check the float bowl gaskets. I had one blow out
for some unexplained reason-- maybe vibration from a previous run had
loosened the screws-- and there was gas everywhere. Fortunately, I hadn't
hit the starter button yet when I smelled gas and shut off the electric fuel
pump. It was a lesson for me, though-- don't fire up (no pun intended) an
engine with the car inside the workshop if you can avoid it.

Your experience is a good reminder to all of us to know exactly where out
fire extinguishers are and that they are fully charged. Hang in there.

Thank you all .... I really appreciate how many of you liked the little
girly Camaro...... and I don't think it's totaled.... but the damage is
substantial.... it's not going to race again in it's current form this much
I know.... I just got it out of the shop and I'm about to lay waste to it
with the pressure washer.... there just isn't anything to save other then
the motor itself... maybe the headers.... but the rest is junk.

I'm really proud of the firewall..... it contained the fire to the engine
compartment and paint on the fenders..... structurally it really does look
fine.... the airwave shocks appear to be okay.... so it didn't get to the
spindles or a-frames best I can tell.... pretty much stayed on the drivers
side of the motor for some reason...

I'll do a gig on fire damage and controlling it when I get back on
Tuesday... but suffice it to say .... a 10lb fire extinguisher isn't even
close to enough...

If I have a choice I'll NEVER own another fiberglass hood....( keep in mind
that's about the only game in town for this car.. so I am limited on that
choice )

I did find a Bic lighter under the car when I rolled it out.... but I don't
think it went first.... it was blown but I think it got hot and blew.... it
might have been one of the restarts....

Enough for now time to clean.....

Keith ( and NO it wasn't insured.... the shop is as well as my personal
property in the shop.... but the actual car wasn't .... lesson learned there
too )
