I agree that Magnaflux is preferable for steel but getting that setup in &
around a whole chassis isn't always practical. On the other hand, Zyglo
comes in a couple of spray cans so it can be used anywhere and on anything.
It isn't as easy to clean up the residue, though-- good point.
Smaller portable items such as rods, cranks, etc are, without question,
items that should be Magnafluxed.

Neil, I use the dye penetrant on aluminum because there's no other good
choice I'm aware of(and can afford). But on ferrous metals I like the
magnetic detection as it rolls good even when the humidity is high(and it
doesn't stain anything), which humidity can be a concern in certain shops
and
parts of the country. But excellent point, this is the time to do it KT.
