Are you talking about electronic fuel injection or mechanical? Lots of 
Hilborn systems use "Down Nozzles" in the head. The Nissan I am familiar 
with has the nozzle bores in the manifold but very close to the split line 
with the head. I think it's just a mater of convenience for the tooling 
manufacturer.
