I'm going to throw my two cents in and agree with J.D. & Keith (their posts are related). After replacing 7 tires during the Bonneville run of 2009 -- a trip I would care not to repeat, we switched from Goodyear D rated (65psi)
tiers to Towmaster E rated (80psi). The trailer runs at or above gross
during these trips. Since tires fail do to heat, putting more air in the
tire cuts down on the flex that causes the problem (heat). We use a TPMS
system that monitors pressure and heat and since switching, I noticed that
the tire temps dropped 40F during the downhill run through Salt Lake and
across the desert. This is a pretty big number in my book. Since
changing/upgrading we have hand no issues.

In the blind-flash-of-the-obvious category... I was fascinated to note that the tires facing the sun seem to run 10F hotter... but since we go the same
distance in both direction it must work it-self out - right?

John

I want a speed rated tire as well as
the LR E capability.

After blowing all different brands of D rated tires on my #7000 trailer
including ones rated at #10,000. I found an E rated which raised my load
caying capacity to #11,320 (2830 each) I have never had a problem with any
of them since the change 5 years ago. They are ST-225/75 R15 LRE Part#
5198221 and can take 80 psi

Now everyone can scream.....They are Carlisles.......Even the place that
mounted them said "where did you get these"...........Let the horror stories
begin but I won't be changing them anytime soon.

PS: I tow at 70-75 when no one is
watching..........................................JD................6 will
get you #16,980 _______________________________________________
