Regarding the recent thread on replacing MGB alternators with something more
reliable:

Regarding a Ford Fiesta (Bosch) replacement: I called the local Autozone
store on a 1980 Ford Fiesta alternator: $105.94 plus $10 core charge. This
was recommended as a bolt on plug in replacement (with a Chevy pulley). I
might look at repairing the alternator I've got before spending the full
$130, but the Fiesta alternator is probably still more reliable.

The GM part number for a 63 amp alternator with self-excited regulator is
7123-3, and retails for $38 plus a $10 core charge. I think the difficulty
here is going to be finding and cutting the metal for adapting this
alternator (I have no band saw, laser cutter, or wire EDM machine.)

I wish somebody sold a kit to do the GM alternator swap.

Since my alternator is dead, and since I have no desire to become a member of
the "Alternator a Year" club, I'll be doing some kind of swap. I'll let you
know what happens.
