bit of effort is a relative term...
In my experience they do require some leg effort, but not major. If they
effort seems high three things are likely, especially considering the "seldom
driven " qualification:
1)old, waterlogged brake fluid. Brakes should be flushed out with new fluid
every 2-3 years. Do so with Castrol GT-LMA ONLY. (and ask if that is the
fluid being used , if not plan on some brake/clutch hydraulic system work to
come)
2)back brakes not adjusted, meaning you are stopping only on the front disks.
Although the fronts do most of the work, the backs being properly adjusted
helps some and reduces pedal travel
3) glazed pads. Easy fix, 20bucks for new pads.
