The official answer is "all of the above"
65 brought the 5 main, part way through the year, as well as the 14 gallon
tank, and the push button door handles. However, not all the changes happened
at once, in order, or even with consistancy, ie: it is possible to find a 65
with a 3 main and a later serial number than a 65 with a 5 main!!! (it might
also have pull-type door handles)
I have a 67 roadster with backup lights (used to think that was 68 and on)
earless spinners on the wire wheels (ditto) and a GT type rear end (ditto
again). This prompted some research and I discovered that all of those items
were phased in during the 67 production run!
Now I've just bought a "67" that by serial number is a 66. This is due to the
fact that California and many other states registered cars by year sold, not
year made, until smog regulations made year made an important issue for
compliance reasons. By the way my 67/66 has a pull-type headlight switch,
which I _used_ to think was a 67 only part, but, you guessed it, the factory
actually started using them half-way thru 66!
The serial number chart provided by Moss in the front of the catalog are
useful, and some of the restoration books will fill in the rest of the
trivia.
Sure makes it fun!
