Good advice. I nearly purchased an otherwise decent '67 with that very
problem.
The rust caused by the standing water had eaten out the air intake, destroying
the vent mechanism and was working its way through the firewall. Needless to
say, I didn't buy that car. But now I have another place to check for rust.

A word to the wise: Next time you have your engine out, I suggest you
thuroughly clean that tube and make sure the drain passage is free. I don't
think driving around with about a quart of dirty water in your heater area
is the right thing to do.
