Well, just when I was starting to feel content with my 69 MGB I saw this
evening my new obsession, the MGF. A member of our club who is a NATO
Commander on loan from England and stationed in Norfolk Virginia has just
taken delivery of a Flame Red MGF. Because of his NATO standing he is
allowed to drive this car in Virginia for one year! So, he bought it in
England sight-unseen before leaving and had it shipped over in a container.
Now this he gets to drive about with English tags as we all drool with envy.
Apparently the process of importing the car involved 10 pounds of red tape
but was resolved the day the car arrived. At the meeting he had 50 members
absolutely hypnotized at the sight of the car. It's beautiful, and to sit
in it makes you feel like you wear the car, not drive it! A discussion
ensued as to whether any other MGF's were in residence in the US so I
thought I would ask the collective knowledge of the brit cars and MG
listservs. Other than car show display, does anyone else out there know of
an MGF that is being used as a daily driver (albeit temporary) in the United
States? If you'd like to see the car and are in this neck of the woods
(southeastern Virginia) drop me an e-mail and I'll let you know of the date
for our next meeting.
