Barney,
I don't want to add to the water pump confusion, but there were 2 different
pumps on the 5 main bearing engine.
One has a longer nose and pump shaft, than the other. The two will bolt up
correctly, the only problem is the correct spacing for the fan. Use the wrong
one and the fan could be sitting about 2 inches too far away from the
radiator. Or conversly, buried about an inch INTO the rad. core.
I found this out the hard way when I ordered the "correct" pump for my 72
B, the previous owner having exchanged the original 18V engine for a 68 18GF
unit. I ordered for the GF and the pump bolted up perfectly, no problems,
straight forward replacement. Until I attempted to reinstall the radiator.
Hmmmm, I dont remember the fan holding the radiator away from the support
like that. Yeah and the pulleys don't line up either.
Quick phone call to Seven Enterprises and a on-line tech session with J.D.
and he had the shorter pump on the next shipment. End of problem. (Thanx
J.D.)
Just my tuppence worth to muddy the waters a bit.
