Hi, Udhishtran Senathirajah --
I do not have any answers for your questions, but I am sending this out to
the Healeys list because I have a Big Healey with exactly the same symptom
you describe of rattling from the engine or gearbox. Maybe someone from
the Healeys/MG list can help us both. I do not have this rattle all the
time. It has happened four times so far, with about one year between the
first and second time. the first three times it happened suddenly suddenly
while at a constant cruising speed (that will tend to empty your bowels,
also). As you say, the rattle gets louder with increasing revs. It also
suddenly disappears on its own. The first times, it lasted only a few
seconds, but the last time it went on for about 20 miles as I was returning
home and quit just as I got there. My guess: It has something to do with
the gearbox first motion shaft or its pilot bearing in the rear of the
crankshaft. I can almost feel this rattle with my feet, and the first time
I think I felt it through my hand on the gearshift.

As far as the accelerator problem, I would check to make sure the
accelerator cable is lubricated. I'm assuming you have a cable the same as
my '73 Midget.

Why can't they put manholes in the MIDDLE of the lane?
