The banjo bolt can go in any direction. Are you getting any fluid
out of the bleeders? Or is your problem that you can't get all the air
out? As far as the starter goes, try pulling starter switch under the hood
(the part that the cable connects).It should only move a small distance
before it engages. My first guess would be that a po put a new cable in
and didn't cut it to length. You should be able to tell without any
problem.
