Mine had similar symptoms when the grose jet in the rear float bowl
failed.  It wasn't stopping the gas flow and flooded it, especially at
higher rpms.  Eventually it wouldn't start at all.  Try taking out the
needle valves/grose jets (whichever you have) and blow through the top
as you push up the needle/ball at the bottom.  If you can still blow air
through it, that's your problem (or at least ONE of your problems).
