My '80 B has the Lucas electronic ignition with the amplifier mounted on
the right wheel well. The wire from the pickup coil to the plug
on the side of the distributor (inside of the distributor) broke.
I tried splicing it several times, but because the wire flexes with the
vacuum advance, it kept breaking next to the soldered joint.

I ordered the Crane-Allison system from Moss, but the first one was DOA.
They sent me a replacement, but I found that the "one size (more or less)
fits all" mounting braket setup was just too flakey.

Since my amplifier was still good, I opted to replace the pickup coil
(The connections for the wires are sealed into the coil unit, so
you have to replace the whole thing.) Moss does not list this part
in their catalog, but Dick Burger (British Parts Connection) was able
to cross reference it for me. (If anyone needs this part number, let
me know and I will look it up.)

While I was fussing with the problem, the technical guy at Crane
told me that they have a replacement for the Lucas amplifier
which does not require any changes to the distributor.

BTW: When the Crane-Allison unit which the PO installed on my Healey
failed, I went back to the points and condenser setup.
