Andy Ramm and I discussed this awhile back, and there was also a smaller
discussion on the list about it. IMHO, I feel that an MG or LBC news group,
would be an excellent addition to this list.

I am in full support of an MG or LBC news group...and I see it very
beneficial to finding new members for this list, and then there may be
people who just would like to browse through some MG content once week
without downloading 300 messages every 7 days...

However the problem I see with it is:

1) Getting the news group promoted and carried by the major UseNet
peering servers.
2) Other smaller problems like spammers (although MUCH less then in past
months and years).

Advantages:

1) As this list isn't currently archived in a "searchable" format, UseNet
pretty much would solve this, making it easy for people to find archived
postings that pertain to a specific topic that was already covered, or while
they do research.
2) As mentioned, you don't have to download all messages...just the ones
you want.
3) It is VERY unlikely that UseNet will totally shut down, so there will
be very little if any outages with a newsgroup. Whereas, the list can go
down for various reasons.
4) File Attachments...unlike the list, you don't HAVE to download a
message with a file attachment. So those of you that hate file attachments
can say NO, and those of you that like them can choose to download the
attachment.

On the note of creating a newsgroup, its not a problem... I've done it
before. Its also no problem of getting the newsgroup carried by atleast 20
of the top50 UseNet peering servers on the Internet.

I see the major benefit of a newsgroup as the archiving on the Internet, you
will have multiple places that store the posts and multiple places where you
can search for them, such as DejaNews and Altavista.

So lets here the other Aye's and Nay's...
