Mike,
I believe that you can lay your engine speed problem directly at the feet
of Mr. Smiths. The connection from engine to rear end is directly
mechanical. If the clutch was slipping that much you would smell it/
notice it/ set something on fire by now. I would assume that you are in
fourth gear and don't have 5.13 gears in the car or a set of those super
low profile super wide tires I see on kid's cars occasionally (I wonder
what they do for wheel bearings?). This means that either your speedo or
tach are incorrect. I wouldn't worry too much about it. If it's the
speedo just keep up with traffic. If it's the tach just shift before your
ears bleed from the screaming ;-) Seriously, the speedo is easy to
check and the tach can be checked with a cheap gauge from the local auto
store or the error can be deduced from the speedo.
Mid 130's sounds workable for a compression test on a 1500 Spitfidget. If
it runs OK I'd leave it alone.
