Actually some ECM's are smarter than a few people I've met.  <G>  
One some fuel injected cars if you open the throttle during crank it causes
the ECM to go to what is called clear flood mode, fuel pump(s) turn off as
well as no injectors for a period of time.  Now I gotta tell ya turning off
the fuel injectors WILL make a car hard to start.
