James;
Here is a copy of a post from a while back. This is where I learned of the
mod. Maybe Mike is listening and could answer my question?

There was an aricle published in the NAMGAR (North Amercian
MGA
Register) mag a couple of months ago that was, in fact,
lifted bodily
from the MGB Mag. This article details the modification of
the Heater
valve (same on both cars) by removing the circlip on the
bottom and
slipping a couple of washers under it.. The valve is very
easy to
disassemble once the rivet has been drilled out.
The article describes a very thorough testing protocol
followed before
and after the modification. It makes a significant
difference in the
heater output. I tried it and have noted an imporved heater
output.
However , as I'm currently using a 150 deg. thermostat any
change will
not be significant. I have just purchased a 180 deg. unit
and expect
large improvements when it is installed. (I also reamed out
the
internals somewhat. One of the local gurus suggested that
the block
opening be reamed out and tidied up as well.
