I have never been paranoid about sitting with the clutch down for a few
seconds, it's a case of looking ahead and estimating how long it will be
before I can move the next few yards. I never rest my foot on the pedal
when driving on clear roads. I have replaced two clutches (well, three
really, but one was a Fraud Sierra so that doesn't count) in 32 years on 15
cars having covered 400k. One of the few cars I had from new was sold at
60k with the original clutch, I have covered 47k so far in the V8 with the
clutch it came with. I don't think I am very hard on clutches.
