Hello Listfolk!
I have not been on this list for quite a while.
I Live in Denver, CO and have a 1979 MGB

I need some advice regarding trouble with the clutch.
I know next to nothing about clutches, so please bear with me :-)
My B is having the following symptoms:
Clutch pedal is intermittently loose, ie no resistance when pressing the
pedal, as if linkage is broken(which it isn't)
Other times it feels normal, but if I press the pedal, with the car
running in neutral, I get a horrible grinding (similar to griding gears in
the gearbox) The noise is coming from the clutch itself and the vibration
is transmitted up through the pedal.
I can see the little rod that comes out of the bottom of the bell housing
(is that what its called?) vibrating like mad when I lay under the car
and look up at it. I have been afraid to try to put it in gear and drive
anywhere.

The car is currently stranded at the bus station.

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance!
