When this started happening to me (yes I have a tonneau that is normally
open on the drivers side for driving) I noticed that the LTD post was
slightly bent over in the direction of the pull on the tonneau. That is
slightly back and towards the pass side. I straightened it and have had
no more trouble. I also snug the pass side where it attaces to the bottom
of the windscreen frame by "closing" the vent window latch on it to hold
it in place. Just gotta remember to open it BEFORE opening the door.
