Wow,
I posted the question and the next morning had to head off to the
racetrack to watch some interesting (and important) pre-qualifying
rounds for cars involved in a major race event this weekend in my town.
I come back to a wealth of suggestions, information, experience - wisdom.
Now I have to sort through it.
Thanks to all (far too many to thank individually).
I'll just say a couple of things that I didn't mention at the start of this.
Firstly, I had my radiator/cooling system pretty thoroughly cleaned at
the beginning of last year when I had my engine rebuilt (major rebuild)
and I run an electric fan. I also run what this week was called 'green
lollywater' by a bit of an 'expert' instead of top class coolant.
Tectaloy 90 Plus - "An Organic Anti-Freeze/Anti-Boil ready to use
coolant, 90 Plus contains 30% by volume Ethylene Glycol"
It seems for the punishment of high revs on really hot days I should be
shelling out lots more money and the hard to find Tectaloy 100 Plus: "A
Long Life Organic Anti-Freeze/ Anti-Boil ready to use coolant, 100 Plus
contains 50% by volume Ethylene Glycol and provided Anti Freeze
protection down to - 37 degrees C. The organic inhibitor system ensures
corrosion protection to your cooling system for 4 years or 100,000
Kilometres". ;-)

http://www.tectaloy.com/products.html but I am really worried about
that: "Anti Freeze protection down to - 37 degrees C" because I can tell
you, it was 37C on Sunday and there was no danger of freezing :-) 37C = 98.6F
