Very different cars, but my V8 with HIFs needs every millimetre of choke to
start in cold weather and for several seconds after that whereas the
roadster with HSs needs neither, so O(ur)MDV.  I had put this down to the
difference in mechanisms - the HIF just opening a small additional port
whereas the HS moves the jet down the needle which would seem to result in a
bigger aperture.
